Current Study Split 🎀
I am currently studying Spanish and Korean, and while I want to spend more time on Spanish because I'm at the point of beginning to speak Spanish and am still an absolute beginner in Korean, my brain keeps trying to make me focus more on Korean because I'm having so much fun with it. So here is the way my week is broken up, with a little bit of insight into how I like to study for the languages.
Sunday - Spanish
Monday - Spanish
Tuesday - Spanish
Wednesday - Korean
Thursday - Korean
Friday - Korean
Saturday - Whichever I Want
My main ways of studying Spanish are:
Busuu
Listening to music
Actively listening to and studying podcasts
Actively watching and studying from movies/TV shows
Practicing flashcards + vocabulary
Italki lessons whenever I get the money
My main ways of studying Korean are:
Busuu
Learn Korean with Billy Go on YouTube
Passively listening to music
Passively watching kdramas
Practicing vocabulary
Practicing Hangul via writing + flashcards
Italki lessons when I have the money
*I want to start using Talk to Me in Korean, but I don't have the money for a subscription just yet. My italki teacher advised me to focus on Hangul and light vocab for now, given my (lack of) current skill in the language.
*My Spanish italki teacher gave me some good advice for studying using podcasts that I can't wait to try out. She said it'll be useful for our next lesson so I can come prepared with something to speak about. Not to sure how I feel about continuing lessons with her but I'll give it a couple more tries and see how it goes. I do like her, but I don't know if it'll be the out helpful with the way she runs our lessons.
I will start posting monthly goals for my languages starting in August! I think it'll help me guide my studies a bit and help me check my progress.
til next time lovelies 🩷

finally comfirmed all my summer courses so heres the schedule!
for context: im studying at Korea University in Seoul for a 6 week semester abroad.
Period 1 - North Korea: History, Society, Politics
Period 2 - Media & Popular Culture in South Korea
Period 5 - Beginning Korean 1
im very interested to see how the class on North Korea will be, i have started some of the recommended reading as well as doing my own research & finding friends in the class and looking forward to it. definitely not a course i could ever find/take at a university here at home.
media & pop culture also super excited for bc i want to dive deeper into studying pop culture, performance art, fandom spaces and more within the realm soso bad
korean 1! i do have some korean learning and time in the country under my belt already but ive never taken an actual class (my speaking is very casual/informal bc of who/where i learned from lol) i feel like i definitely have missed or not fully understood a lot of grammar in the past also so i wanna kind restart the learning process w more structure :)
if anyone has questions abt the classes/program/study abroad/ etc lmk and ill do my best to answer !! excited to be back and motivated and study the things i love after a pretty difficult spring semester

🌿16th December, 2023 🌿
it's been a while since i last updated. i'm done with the practical exams for this semester, and am now preparing for the theory papers. for some reason, we have lots of study leaves in between the papers, which is a blessing for me, since i'm feeling extremely unprepared.
the good news is, i can make lots of time now to continue learning korean and also do a little bit of coding. so, i'm looking forward to that.

Hi, this is not language related but I’ll be grateful if you can answer🌸📚 How can i annotate non-fiction and philosophy books? Like what’s the process of identifying themes and color coding and all that? How do you guys decide? My mind is melting - genuinely asking for help 😹🧚🏻‍♀️🌧️✨

한국어 실력을 높이기 위해서 매일 한국어로 일기를 쓰고 있어요.
As I have mentioned, September was a jam-packed month. I continue to upskill in my various interests and hobbies and pursue opportunities that I see myself enjoying - which is true most of the time. There's just so much homework to do. 🙈
I started studying Korean again to pursue translation in the future. Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines offered free cultural and language classes for the final term this year, and I got a slot for one of their classes. Registration at KCC is competitive. I initially aimed for two classes, but I am still lucky that I got into one of them. With King Sejong Institute, students complete 60 hours of language learning to graduate. Classes are happy, free, confusing, and seemingly complex at the same time 😉 but our teacher helps us understand each lesson before moving to another topic.
Oh, and we get to eat together after class, too!
I'm also studying Italian. But that's a whole other, yet equally confusing story. Languages are already mixing up in my head. But I still think that I want to learn more!
여기까지만 이야기를 할게요. 다음에 봬요!

HIII im back fr this time lol here are updates on life and my studies
- did not get enough funding for my planned study abroad in taiwan sadly, BUTTTT i last second was able to get into a summer program at korea university in seoul!! (will post summer + fall schedule after this)
- ended up failing a class this semester because the listed grading system on the syllabus was apparently not what was used but its fine ill live, just need to do reallly good in the fall to bring my gpa back up (it went from 3.425 -> 3.0)
- im either switching my minor to east asian languages or dropping it all together and focusing on anthropology/archaeology in school and languages in my own time :) i already dropped the chinese minor as i dont want to continue taking courses with the single professor at my uni but still want my credits for the mandarin and japanese courses ive taken to count towards my degree if possible
- currently trying to rest during my short summer break before i go to korea so im not burnt out there or in the fall but also starting to read ahead on the classes im taking there when i have the energy

My language learning goals for the rest of 2023
I just turned 20, and I got inspired to learn more languages. I was already starting French (I want to move to Europe lol), and I already speak Spanish and English.
My aunt gave me a cute journal, and I've decided to use it for languages. I'm using Spanish as the primary language for the journal to get extra practice in jeje
Okay, without further ado, here's my language list with goals:
Español - improve vocabulary, grammar, and reading
learn 300 words
write a page daily
read 3 articles a week
watch 1 movie with SP subtitles a week
Français - get past level A2, consume more french media
finish pimsleur level 1
finish duolingo sections 1 and 2
10 activities from le point du FLE per week
廣東話 - learn as much as possible
finish pimsleur
learn at least 50 characters
learn vocab from cantonese.ca and sheik
한국어 - vocab and basic grammar
learn 50 new words
15 pimsleur lessons
a few lessons from the textbook
It may seem ambitious, but the details are actually quite feasible. Right now, I'm working fulltime and I'm not able to do crazy feats, so I think it's pretty decent.
Alrighty, la pêche is out!
